Wahey!!

by Suw on November 27, 2003

Today I went past the 10,000 hits per month post for the first time! Yay!! And it's not even the 30th yet!

Of course, hits are not equivalent to visitors, so this probably means that just one person has way too much spare time on their hands.

Suw,

What is the difference between a hit and a visitor? I read your blogs, but rarely enter the sight with the name, password, salute, and all that other stuff necessary to make a short reply.

OK, so that's at least 3333 hits each…

Sam – a hit is any single file downloaded from a server, such as an html page or graphic. A visitor is one unique person (or really, computer) who may download a number of files from a server. You always have more hits than visitors because you can't visit without hitting.

The key statistic, which is one that Blog-City doesn't currently provide, is that of 'unique users', i.e. the number of individual users/computers that visit the site over a given period. That gives you a pretty good approximation of how many real people are reading your stuff.
