Our cat Rossy, aka Rosencrantz, just died, aged 12. She was fine this morning, her usual chirpy self, then not long ago she laid down, miaowed a little, and died.
Cats have always been a big part of our family. Rossy was one of two sisters we got as kittens. She and Guildenstern both had litters of kittens themselves, one of which, Sandii, we kept. Gilly disappear several years ago, and Sandii was in a fatal car accident in 2000.
Rossy was an affectionate, happy cat, who would steal your dinner from your plate (and Fflwff's!) with unparalleled insouciance. Even though she was getting on a bit, she'd still play, but mainly she'd just cuddle up on your lap and purr a lot. We will all miss her terribly.
Aw Suw, I'm so sorry. It's horrible to lose a pet. I don't care what anybody says: they are real, fully paid-up members of the family as much as your brother or your mum or your aunt, and it's a terrible wrench when they leave us.

Thanks so much for the support, everyone.
It was a bit of a shock as she was an otherwise healthy cat, but I guess one just has to accept that it's part of the cycle.
Aw. Darn.
Lovely cat, you were lucky to have her.

My condolences, Suw. We had to put our very sick 15 year old cat to sleep a few weeks ago, thereby making the name of my blog a factual statement. 🙁 My wife and I miss him terribly, as I'm sure you miss Rossy.

Aw, thanks everyone for your support.
And Ralph, I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. It's such a hard decision to make.
We've talked about what happened to Rossy and we think that maybe she had a heart attack, or stroke or somesuch, because it was so sudden. We took her to the vet to be cremated as yesterday was not a day to be out digging holes in the garden (and I think that's illegal now anyway). It was kinda strange to think of her not being around last night – our cats roam the house as they like and usually you'd hear her mooching around in the middle of the night. But we still have Cleo and Fflwff, so we have much moggisity to keep us going.
