I am so going to freeze my ass off in Boston. I just looked at the weather forecast and was surprised at how mild it was, until I realised that Americans do the temperature thing in degrees F instead of C. I reckon they only do it to make the weather sound warmer – somehow, 20F sounds better than -7C.
Anyway, I am entirely unprepared. I have no warm clothes, so am going to have to wear layers instead. I have no appropriate footwear, and the coat I am taking is a very attractive but not particularly thick fur-trimmed frock coat (it's the warmest one I own). At least I have a hat, gloves and several scarves, though, so I will look cool, but my god it's going to be brass monkeys.
Ergo, a short message to my friends in Boston. Do not expect me to go out, unless it is in a nice, warm car. Do not expect me to walk anywhere, unless it is from the house to the car, or the car to pub. I am barely prepared for British winters, where it's a cold snap if it gets as low as 32F/0C, let alone a Boston winter.
Oh, and crank the heating up too – I feel the cold something rotten.
Entirely unprepared

Reminds me when, back in Korea, I hired an Aussie girl. Told her to pack for cold, as winters in Korea can be as cold as single-digit temps.
She fired back an answer saying something along the lines “oh, single digit? I can handle that!”.
My reply consisted of just three words:
I meant Fahrenheit.
🙂
When I moved out to Missouri from Southern California, I didn't even own a coat — that was four years ago… Now, I oen a few coats, scarves, gloves, long underwear — you name it. It's 15?F out there today which is warm compared to the -14?F last week… And Boston is SO much further north than us!
Good luck!
