No doubt, 2016 has been a bit of a weird one, and it’s been hard to remember that fun things have happened in my life because of all the crap that’s gone on in the wider world. It’s been emotionally draining, and it’s far too easy to focus on exactly the wrong sort of thing and wind up feeling demoralised and unhappy.
So next year, as an attempt to keep myself in a happier and more positive mood, I’ve decided to spent at least ten minutes a day doing something fun and creative. I’ll do a different thing each month, and where possible I’ll chronicle the results here. These are my current ideas for my monthly thing, in no particular order:
- Learn to use the brush calligraphy set that Kevin bought for me in Singapore
- Write a short blog post
- Learn a new word in English
- Draw a cat
- Write a poem
- Send a postcard
- Take a photo of Lake Michigan
- Read a book I’ve been putting off
- Watch some Welsh-language TV
- Do some bookbinding
- Play with my Emergency Writer’s Card Pack
- Memorise a poem
Obviously some of these require me to be at home for the month, and some of them are portable for when I’m travelling. Some might require input from my friends, and others I might change my mind about, if I come up with something more interesting or exciting. But the bottom line is that every day next year I will do something fun and creative, something that stretches my mind a little bit.
If anyone wants to join me, I’d love to hear about it!
