The Guardian, one of the few UK publications to understand blogging, is to launch a new games blog.
The blog, which will be available from Monday 2 August, will be written by Aleks Krotoski, former presenter of Channel 4's “Thumb Bandits”; Greg Howson, Guardian Online's games reviewer; and Keith Stuart, the mobile gaming expert. It will cover every game genre and every major gaming platform, including PCs, consoles, the net and mobile phones.

I don't think the Guardian truly does understand blogging. If they did, the Guardian Weblog would have permalinks. It's almost as if there's a breakdown in internal communication there – why have some actual blogs, set up properly, and one that just uses a rudimentary blog format without actually being a blog?
The Guardian blogs are not consistent – the Online blog does have permalinks, as does the new Games blog, but the News and the US Election blogs do not. I do know that there is a good reason why this is, but you're going to have to take my word for it that that's the case. I would like all the blogs to have permalinks and comments, but I'll settle for 50% for the moment.
However, if a lack of permalinks is your only criteria for criticism of The Guardian's blogging policy, then I'm surprised. Personally, I think they 'get' blogs a lot more than any other UK publication at the moment. Not all their features are spot on, it's true, but they're making a good go at getting their head round the medium.
