Top five reasons for going to see Troy

by Suw on May 22, 2004

We all like films for different reasons, and when I get home I'll go into more detail as to why I enjoyed watching Troy last night, but in the meantime, here are five of the most compelling reasons to go and see it:
1. Eric Bana in a skirt
2. Brad Pitt in a skirt
3. Orlando Bloom in a skirt
4. Sean Bean in a skirt
5. Thousands upon thousands of Greeks and Trojans. All in skirts.
I do think that we should seriously re-examine Trojan fashion with a view to reinstating the short leather skirt as normal daywear for men. Actually, the longer sarong-style skirts were pretty cool too. Beats a suit and tie any day of the week.

Hmm, but really, would you want to see someone like me in a frickin' skirt? No, only the beautiful men.

I have been in a skirt for a sketch comedy group, it ain't pretty. The witnesses to said event were blinded. Rethink this idea 😉

I see now that you do have bizarre fantasies, too. Sadly, mine don't involve skirts. 😉

SiBorg eagerly awaits the beginning of warm weather every year, so he can begin wearing the sarong he adopted during his sojourn in Sri Lanka with his godfather Prof. Jon Walters. And he looks good, too.

Nichevo: maybe the short leather skirt might not do your knees justice, but I'm sure a different style would work. Perhaps something long and flowing? A Laura Ashley floral print, maybe?
With men as with women, some skirts suit better than others. It's a matter of finding your style.
Thomas: see above.
Horst: I'm disappointed in you. I had thought you were showing such potential.
AKMA: As always pictorial evidence of men is skirts is welcomed here. 😉 Should you wish to also post, feel free. Perhaps you could start a new trend with the Cassock Mini (TM)? Bring hemlines up a bit this season?

Yeah, well, I'm thinking that my style just does not involve skirts. Laura Ashley floral print? Are you asking for a slap?

Anonymous May 24, 2004 at 1:30 pm

Tease. See, you promise a slap but you never deliver.

Anonymous May 24, 2004 at 2:21 pm

I'd happily deliver if it weren't for the 200 odd miles between us. If you really wanted a good slappin' you'd travel for it.

Anonymous May 24, 2004 at 3:01 pm

Oh, you're so… geographical!

Anonymous May 24, 2004 at 3:14 pm

I suppose I could make an exception in your case: it depends upon which parts of you I will be allowed to slap.

Suw, I will wear other weird things for you, but sadly, skirts are not my thing.

Well, besides the skirts, there is another reason, of sorts. It is your home territory, Suw. A professor has written a book call HERE LAY TROY that puts forth the thesis that the Iliad and Odyssey were not just fictional stories handed down from generation to generation. They were real events that happened with real people who lived long, long ago … you guessed it … in eastern England! The author presents the case that the voyage described took them down to Portugal, across the Atlantic, and such before returning home once again to good old Troy. He also posits that later … much later … when people began to populate the southern extremes like what is today known as Greece, they named their cities after the old familiar places they had come from … like Sparta, Athens, or whatever were the names of towns back on the island they came from that lies just north of the European coastline. They were your ancestors, Suw! 🙂

This professor didn't have to be called Prof. Virgil did he? Cos that sounds so similar to the Aeneid, which positied direct decendence from Aeneas, thus legitimising Rome and the rule of Augustus.

Ha ha ha
*blushes*
I have learnt the power of skirts myself this year. I shall be wearing them more often. I just need better weather and fewer lorry drivers to do so.
