Rewriting is rewriting – quelle surprise

by Suw on January 5, 2004

Just rewrote the first really big fight scene after some correspondance with a real proper living breathing swordsman who knows his onions and has kindly offered to advise me as to onions and uses thereof. (Thank you Randal!) It's much better for the attention, which is very satisfying. However, that does mean that I've only actually added all of two minutes to the sp tonight and I'm feeling all kinda stuck on the second half of act 2. I feel the urge to cut significant chunks out. Maybe I should just go with my instincts. I can always stuff stuff back in if I really have to.

Ah well, Rome wasn't built in a day. Although I'd like the name of any city that was.

No, the name of the city later called Rome was a very long story. It was called a million of things over thousands of years, but because no-one could decide what to call it, they decided to call it Rome.

This is Latin for the english roam.

*blinks. What?

I was trying to think of a city that was built in a day… At any road, Rome was built, it was consolidated out of a bunch of little towns. So think of yourself as consolidating a screenplay out of a bunch of little scenes…. Or a life… out of a bunch of little scenes. It's midnight in the States and I've got to consolidate sleep… out of a bunch of little naps.

Goodnight,

Chris

LOL

Sometimes, it's hard enough to consolidate a sentence out of a bunch of little words, or even a word out of a bunch of little letters…

Right now, I think I'd prefer to be consolidating a holiday out of a bunch of little trips. 😉

Sometimes it's quality that matters more than quantity. If you made an existing scene better, then I wouldn't worry about only adding two minutes. Much better to have five good minutes than ten poor ones.

A bit like sex in that regard.

Although… probably not.
