Happy Winter Solstice!

by Suw on December 22, 2003

At long last, the shortest day, the beginning of the end of Winter. I look forward to the Winter Solstice every year, to the days starting almost imperceptibly to draw out in the slow run up to Spring. It’s almost like the true new year starts today, rather than hanging about for another week and a half until the calendars agree.

In truth, I think next year started early this year, about a week ago. I suddenly felt like the events of 2003 were by then actually in the past, really truly and properly, and that I could start to concentrate now on the future. I’ve been looking over my shoulder so much over the last few months I’ve barely given thought to what I’m going to do – apart from in the sense of a panicked ‘Oh my god! What am I going to do?’ way.

Now I’m a lot clearer on what I want to achieve next year and, although making a decision is a lot easier than implementing it, I do hope that life will start to get back on track in January.

In the meantime, I’m taking a couple of weeks to just chill out, read books, and write. I think I’ve earnt a bit of a break, after all.
