RSS agreggators

by Suw on November 25, 2003

I've decided that Syndirella is a steaming pile of stinking poo and that I'm fed up with it running like a legless dog and crashing my computer every time it tries to update its feeds. Ok, so having an agreggator that allows me to read stuff offline is handy, but the fact that it keeps spitting out errors every thirty seconds is not. So I'm going to try Bloglines instead.

There. You really wanted to know that, didn't you?

I started using bloglines a couple of weeks ago and find it great. I have a dsl connection so unless my computer is actually turned off I'm never offline so I don't need an offline aggregator.

I used FeedReader for a while and found it useable, but also learned that I really don't want or have any use for an aggregator. Doesn't suit the way I prefer to read and explore at all. FeedReader was at least well behaved.

Also, I actually find Ximian rather useful in the Linux world. Email and RSS feeds in one interface. Far far better than integrating them into Outlook (which I try to avoid using.

Bloglines is ok at the moment, but I'm not 100% sold on it yet. I might try FeedReader too, just for comparison.

Thing is, it's good to be able to download blogs and read them offline, now that I'm back in the land of dial-up (and cranky dial-up at that – half the time I can't even get a connection).

I prefer reading blogs on the site they were written for, it provides more context that way. But I suppose I'm just a bit lazy when it comes to checking each blog in turn only to find that it's not changed.
