The best toy ever

Fancy going for a quick spin in the convertable… up the Thames?

The Gibbs Aquada is possibly the sexiest car I've ever seen. I'm not a big fan of cars, having spent the last 14 years since I passed my test finding good excuses not to get behind the wheel of one. Despite my car phobia, however, I would learn to drive again if my car was an Aquada. I think it's something to do with the way the wheels pull up into the body when it converts into a boat, or the beautiful lines of its hydrodynamic underbelly, or the fact that it's a convertable and looks as sexy as fuck on the water as well as off.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much online about the Aquada, except a Real Media BBC report. The Gibbs Technologies web site doesn't give much away, and the Aquada web site doesn't work (for me, anyway. Maybe you'll have more luck), which is a pity. I wanted to see more of this sleek beauty, moving over land and water with grace, style and speed. Actually, the thing shifts like shit off a stick, considering that it's half boat/half car – it can do 100mph on land and 30mph on water. That's not so surprising when you find out there's a V6 under the hood, but oh, the style with which it moves!

I'm in love with this car in a way I have never been in love with any sort of vehical ever, in my entire life. I usually hate cars. Black sheep of the family, see. My Dad used to be a kart driver and then rally driver. My brother made replica Fords. Various cousins and assorted uncles have been racing drivers, either with karts, hill climbing or rallying. Really, cars should be in my genes, but it seems that they skipped a generation.

I think my fear of cars started the moment I started to learn to drive one. I have appalling depth and speed perception, so find it hard to accurately judge the state of driving conditions. Then when I was 18, I totalled my Mum's car on a dodgy junction near here and haven't been quite the same since. I used to have the most horrific nightmares about driving and was terrified quite beyond reason when behind the wheel, even though I'm actually a reasonably good driver. (So I'm told.) I make a pretty bad passenger too, the fear never quite leaving me, even if I'm not driving.

But I would conquer all that, I would deal with my terrors, if only I had an Aquada.

Anyone got a spare ?150,000?

Cool car… Definitely in a class by itself…

Check out the Chrysler Crossfire… That's my current fave… but it doesn't swim… oh well

Suw,

I never heard of that car. The local TV here in Denver, Colorado USA had a spot on the car. It really looks sharp. No wonder you start driving again. I couldn't believe that they showed it on the TV here after you wrote about it.

Hei Nwdls! Ti'n iawn? Neis i weld ti yma!

Mae 'na rywbeth yn y New Scientist am yr Aquada hefyd, ond sdim byd ar eu gwefan, yn anffodus. Ond sai fo'n ffantasig am nipio i lawr y Thames (neu ble bynnag) i'r swyddfa. Sai fo'n iawn ar y mor, siwr o fod, os roedd o'n dawel.

Ydy, mae'r sgwennu'n mynd yn dda iawn dw i'n meddwl ('blaw am y blydi powercut ddoe!). Dw i'n hapus gyda SP2 (so far), ac bydda i'n gweithio ar SP1 eto pan dw i wedi cael yr adolygiadau i gyd o Zoetrope. Rhaid imi ailsgwennu tipyn bach, ond sdim byd structural i ddewis. Dw i wedi trwsio'r section hir, ond dw i'n meddwl bydda i'n dewis hynny eto pan dw i'n ailsgwennu.

Gyda llaw – rhaid imi siarad ? thi am y Gwyl Ffilm Caerdydd. Mae gen i ffrind sy wedi gwneud ffilm bach. Sgen ti guidelines am submissions? Hefyd, dw i'n meddwl am ddod… ond dw i'm yn siwr ar hyn o bryd achos dw i'm yn gwybod ble bydda i'n bod wedyn.

Dwi'n meddwl bod y submission date newydd fod ond ella gallith hi blagio fo. Fasa'n gret gweld ti lawr yn yr wyl, fyddai'n gweithio yno bob dydd dwi'n meddwl (ffordd fi o gael gweld y ffilms i gyd am ddim!), ond os ddei di lawr nai trio blagio amball frrebie i ti. Bydd na Almodovar a Troma retrospective, ffilmiau newydd o'r Almaen a llwythi o shit eraill. Wastad yn exciting gweld y ffilms newydd o Gymru hefyd a trio spotio'r talent nesa. Ma na un ffilm o'r enw “Shadi and the Beautiful Well” sy'n sicr o ennill y short film competition. Mae o'n stunning am ymdrech gyntaf. Yr unig reswm na chaiff o ennill ydi am ei fod ddim yn dod o Gymru a wedi byw yng Nghasnewydd i astudio ffilm. Allai anfon copi o'r dvd i ti fenthyg rywbryd os ti'n methu dod lawr i'r wyl. Shit hot talent in the making (waw, brawddeg Gymraeg wych!).

Pob hwyl efo'r sgriptio 'de, dal ati, a thria sgwennu ambell short i gael nhw wedi cynhyrchu i gael dy enw allan na yn y byd. Ma nhw'n lot llai labour intensive ond yn sialens wahanol. Hwyl am y tro(ns), Nwdls.
