Hi Romanista. I'm surprised that Amazon charged you $3.44 as that's not the price that's set. Can you tell me which store this was in as I'm very, very perplexed by the pricing! Thank you for buying it anyway though!

Laura, I hope to be putting some of the notebooks on Folksy soon, so will email you when they are up!

Nikki, there are some great books out there on bookbinding. I've heard people recommend Bookbinding: A Step-by-step Guide by Kathy Abbott, and I myself have used The Bookbinding Handbook by Sue Doggett which is pretty good. There's another I have which I can't remember off the top of my head but I'll check when I get home!

Hi Suw,

Love the idea of the Queen of May project. I'm also keen to start doing a bit of bookbinding, and was wondering if you could recommend a good book? I did a course years ago but need to prod my memory.

many thanks

Suw, I found your site through Taleist - thanks for a super helpful post on Crowdfunding!
I LOVE these notebooks. I lived in Japan for several years and the paper is so familiar and nostalgic. Where can I get my hands on them? :) I can't find any links to them but I'd love to know more about purchasing them. - Laura

Derwydd, Ramona, thanks for your comments. In a sense, my questions were rhetorical, as I have to figure out the details of the faerie world in which my faeries live, which might be a little different to someone else's faeries. But I appreciate the information. :D

Faeries are a complicated and cast species. They range from tiny pixies to evil trolls and even magnificent selkies. Faeries, however, aren't like humans as they do not share complex emotions as we do. This then is the main reason as why faeries are so fascinated by humans, it's why they break out of their own realm and enter the human one. Changelings are human babies abducted by faeries, replaced by faerie babies. This is mainly due to the fact that faeries are highly entertained by human emotions (as mentioned before). Politics in Faerie is very much similar to those of humans. Like we have different campaigns, faeries have different courts, the main ones being the Seelie and Unseelie Court. Both courts are ruled by royals, Kings or Queens and sometimes both. The Seelie Court is known for homing fae which help and guide humans, much like angels, while the Unseelie Court homes fae that are usually vicious and malevolent towards humans. That being said, most faeries tend to stay their distance from humans. Faeries live in nature, and their magic practised is mainly 'Glamour' which is a form of a faerie disguising an object into another i.e. A faerie can change a mushroom into a delicious apple pie. If you need anything else, try reading Tithe by Holly Black. It's an excellent novel and explains most of the faerie habits.

Hi Carl! Yeah, it'd be possible to do everything via PayPal, but one would have to ask why? The cost to you in time would easily eat up whatever savings you made in fees.

Whilst it's true that you have to do your own promo, you can't rely on just using Kickstarter to get you all the support you need, there's no doubt in my mind that using KS or other such platforms is a massive advantage to doing it via PayPal on your own site. For one, Kickstarter collates all the pledges in one place so that people can see that others have made the same decision to support a project, and that's an important signifier for those who are undecided. There's also a lot admin stuff, like being able to ask supporters to provide information in mini-questionnaires, messaging and whatnot that's useful in managing the project. Plus you have all your updates and comments in one spot.

So yeah, you could roll your own if you wanted, but it's be more hassle than it's worth imho.

Just wondering, how much value does the Kickstarter service itself add to the process?

As I understand it you as creator have to do all or most of the promotion work anyway. And many fans will be signing up to the service specially for your project because they've seen it elsewhere. So in theory isn't the entire fundraising exercise possible on one's own blog/site with, say, a Paypal account? And then you avoid the Kickstarter fees.
